SOUPer Month of Caring

We typically participate in the SOUPer Bowl of Caring on the first Sunday of February. SOUPer Bowl of Caring is a nationwide youth-led initiative that uses the energy of the Super Bowl to address hunger in local communities. Like many things these days, this year’s SOUPer Bowl of Caring will be different — we are extending it throughout the month of February!

This initiative will include a “Soup and Stories” Facebook Live event, a Drive Thru Food Drive (like we had in June), and a Blood Drive!

Non-perishable Food and Non-Food Item Donations

During February, we will be collecting donations for two area food ministries: Clemson Community Care, a ministry long-supported by FBCP, and Mt. Zion Food Pantry for Friends, a new ministry located at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs.

The lists below include items that are most needed at each site.

Clemson Community Care Current Needs
soup, mixed vegetables, pork and beans, 2 lb. sugar, jelly, canned meat, canned fish, oatmeal, grits, mixed beans (peas, black beans, kidney beans etc.) Any in-date, non-perishable food is needed and appreciated.

Mount Zion Food Pantry Current Needs
canned tuna, canned chicken, canned chili, beef stew, canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly, coffee, tea, cooking spices — salt, pepper, cinnamon, sugar, garlic powder, etc., cornbread mix

Drive Thru Food Drive

You may bring your donations to First Baptist Church of Pendleton anytime throughout the month, but please let a staff member know when you plan to come because we keep the doors locked to minimize traffic in the building.
OR
Hold onto everything and use our Drive Thru Food Drive on Sunday, Feb 28 from 1-3 pm. Simply drive through our parking lot and volunteers will unload your donations; you stay in your vehicle the whole time!

An Opportunity for Food & Fellowship
Soup & Stories

Join us on Facebook Live the first two Sundays of February — Feb 7 and Feb 14 — at 5 pm for soup cooking and story sharing!
Pastor Jennifer Rygg and family invite you to their kitchen (via Facebook live video) where they will be preparing soup and sharing a family story about the recipe. Click the list of ingredients below so you can cook along with them if you would like!
In a time when we cannot gather for a church-wide meal, this is a way to (sort of) share table fellowship together. On Feb 7, we will make Cheesy Chicken Soup, and on Feb 14, we will make Clam Chowder.
We would love to hear your favorite soup recipes, especially if you have a story about the soup! Send your recipe and story (include a picture if you would like!) to office@fbcpendleton.org with Soup and Stories in the subject line. We will compile the recipes and share them later this month, as part of our SOUPer Month of Caring.
