One way to do missions during the time of COVID
by Wayne Patterson
CBFSC Disaster Response Coordinator

CBF Disaster Response is working with churches and partners along the Gulf Coast to provide buckets containing items essential for flood cleanup. COVID-19 has limited our ability to take mission trips to help in the areas affected by hurricanes and floods and so forth, but we know the Flood Buckets will be needed and we can provide them. It gives us a way to demonstrate love and care for the people affected even though we can’t be there in person. We can and do send financial support but these bucket items, like many other materials, will be in short supply so we are meeting a real need and doing hands-on missions at the same time. In addition, if small groups in our churches work together to prepare the buckets, the fellowship and general missional feeling they will experience is immeasurable. The flood bucket project can truly help us to be the presence of Christ that helps strengthen our churches while helping our neighbor. We are grateful for your partnership in Disaster Response mission work!

In response to Hurricane Ida, FBCP will once again be assembling flood bucket kits. Each bucket includes items such as detergent, cleaner, wipes, gloves, masks, and trash bags. A complete bucket kit costs approximately $80-$100.

Here are 3 ways you can help:

  • Make a monetary donation by Sunday, September 12 to purchase supplies for the buckets. Donate online and designate your contribution to Hands On Mission and put “flood buckets” in the memo line; by mail to the church; or in the offering plate on Sunday.
  • Join us at church on Wednesday, September 15 to help assemble buckets.
  • If you would like to assemble a bucket yourself or with your Sunday School class, family, or another group, get the list of items. Please follow the instructions and bring your completed bucket to church by Wednesday, September 15.

Thank you for being a part of this special project to remind those dealing with the aftermath of Ida that they are not alone.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. Isaiah 43:2a
