On Mission

We are a neighborhood church with a global outreach!

For more than fifteen years First Baptist has been remodeling itself into a missional church.  Through our general budget, capital fund-raising projects  and a number of grants we have moved from a church which merely funds missions (although we still fund over 40 mission groups and projects) to a being a church that DOES missions in our neighborhood and around the world.

Pendleton:
We have built two Habitat for Humanity homes in Pendleton and have renovated numerous homes (roofs, new flooring, wheelchair accessibility, etc.) in the Pendleton Area.  Three times a week more than 80 meals are delivered in the Pendleton area from our Kitchen through the SOUP (Supper On Us Pendleton) program.  We partner with Operation Magi and Pack4 to provide Christmas gifts and backpacks to needy schoolchildren in Pendleton.  We offer the Pendleton Community Counseling Center - Pendleton's only pastoral counseling service.  Our children and youth do a variety of mission projects in our town.  As a recipient of the Bi-Lo corporations "Food for the Hungry" program we have food on site for distribution to those who need it.

South Carolina:
We have made numerous trips to Allendale, SC (one of SC's poorest counties) and to the Metanoia Ministry in North Charleston.  We provide duffel bags and Bibles for foster children and prisoner packets for those incarcerated.  Through the Angel Tree project we provide gifts for children in our wider area who have a parent in prison.

United States:
We have a very active disaster recovery team.  Since 2005 they have made dozens of trips to the Hurricane Katrina zone, Alabama tornado zone, Atlanta and Nashville flood zones.  Our youth group has particiapted in Summer Mission Camps in Tennessee, Puerto Rico, Alabama, and Georgia.

World:
Through a generous grant from church members we have a fund that allows people to take international mission trips.  To date this grant has funded trips to Romania, Belize, Nepal, Thailand and Greece.
